The New Baroque

This project was inspired by the arts of the Baroque period. I was fascinated by the sum of details that can be found in one single object created in this period. I visited the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City, as well as the British Museum in London to gather images of objects that would serve as my inspiration for the project. I was inspired by the architecture and decorations found in living rooms, and objects like chairs and chests, which is from I got the motifs for this collection of samples.

After doing research on trends and what other designers have done, I then concluded what my collection was going to be about. I found out about Kintsugi, which is the Japanese practice of repairing pottery in a way that highlights the cracks. “Boulevard of dreams” S/S 17 collection of Viktor and Rolf, uses this technique in fashion in a way that the designers used materials of collections to create a new one. From this point, is that my collection comes alive, showing a juxtaposition between prints, materials, and textures. Moreover, it shows a contemporary and a fresher style of baroque; the NEW BAROQUE.
